During the filming of “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”, Arnold Schwarzenegger was awarded $15 million for his role which given the 700 words he spoke in the film, averaged out to $21,429 per word.
#8 Total Realism
Because director Christopher Nolan prefers constructing movies with nothing but realism, massive rotating sets were built inside of a London airport hangar for the zero-gravity fight scenes in “Inception”. Since most of the sets rotated a full 360-degrees, actors such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt had to train for weeks to maneuver inside of them for filming.
#9 Wearing Himself Thin
For his role as a middle-aged man in “Cast Away”, Tom Hanks didn’t exercise which allowed himself to become pudgy. In order for him to grow his hair out and lose 50 pounds, production had to stop for almost a year.
#10 Real Pain
In the “chest-hair” scene in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”, Steve Carrell actually had his chest hair waxed and removed in one take. Before filming, the comedian insisted as he told Judd Apatow special effects wouldn’t be as funny.
#11 The Dark Voice
In one of the closing fight scenes in “The Dark Knight Rises”, actor Tom Hardy, who portrays Bane, accidentally attacked real police officers patrolling the area. As the scene was shot on Wall Street with a large number of extras, some officers accidentally blended in while filming and but weren’t seriously harmed by Hardy who was unable to see differences due to being “in-character”.
#12 Evacuating Pirates
While filming “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, cast and crew had to be evacuated to Los Angeles because of Hurricane Wilma getting closer to the coast.
#13 A Total Wreck
In “Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon”, almost 532 vehicles were destroyed in the film. No damage costs were reported because the cars were given away by an insurance company due to being flood-damaged.
#14 ’90s Meets The 2000s’
Director James Cameron originally planned to release the movie “Avatar” in 1999 but because of the graphics/special effects he wanted, production would have cost up to $400 million. He then scrapped the film until a later date which produced a movie that was 40% live-action and 60% photo-realistic CGI.
#15 A Rated R Relationship
When the movie “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” was first filmed, some intimate parts between Edward and Bella caused the film to receive an R rating from the MPAA. The crew then had to edit the movie to fit the PG-13 rating that better suits their audience.
